Day 11: 15 July 2013

In class today we began discussing about our trip to Chania. All of the comments were positive and most of us would like to go back to see the main town and other areas we did not get to see.

After this discussion we began talking about cooperative banking. I do not have a strong background in business but I know understand a basic knowledge of this after being here. What I have learned from this lecture was that cooperative banking is important in Europe and this part of the world. This makes things easier for people who want to transfer money or being financially connected throughout the world. What was interesting is that it is similar to the United States with some of the main banks that are known throughout the country and then smaller banks within different states. This is the same with Crete. I did not realize this until we had this lecture. Eurobank is seen throughout the island but there is also other smaller banks too that can be found.

This lecture I believe was important because now I have a better picture of what banking is like in Crete, Greece and also in Europe in general. Now when I travel to areas in Crete or other European areas I will pay attention to the banking systems and I will have a greater knowledge of them.
